There are
times when a person can feel down, upset, troubled, and the likes; when one
wants to feel happiness. Loving-kindness Meditation (LKM) is a specialized
meditation on bringing about positive feelings to the mind and soul.
Like other
forms of meditation, LKM reduces stress. Therefore, less stress, less hassle.
This calms the mind and soothes it of any negativity.
In a study
centering on the body’s inflammatory and neuroendocrine system, those who
practiced LKM had lesser inflammation compared to those who didn’t practice it.
The group that practiced LKM also had reduced stress levels. It is noted that
doing it for at least once a week could mean a big difference.
One problem
in today’s society is, well, social anxiety. When dealing with new people, LKM
brings forth positivity upon making acquaintances. A good social connection is
formed whether the person is aware of it or not.
Of all
practices, LKM is one to fix the negative patterns of the mind. It makes a
person develop the value of acceptance, freeing the mind of any fear or pain.
Practicing LKM can possibly stray away any self-doubt a person has when faced
with a task at hand.
LKM begins
with oneself. When we learn to love ourselves, we learn to love others. It’s a
basic step. Common misconception, however, is that we end up being selfish from
loving ourselves too much. Buddha counters this saying “Investigating the whole
world with my mind never did I find anyone dearer than oneself. Since oneself
is dearer than others, one who loves oneself should never harm others”
