Ever since
discovering the powers of meditation in 2012, Hugh Jackman didn’t need to go
all mutant anymore when it came to dealing with stress.
Being in the
acting business, it’s impossible not to face the demons of stress.
“One thing
about my job is there is a high level of stress that’s easy to buy into. It
doesn’t matter how long you’re doing it. For each new role, there’s some
element about it that’s risky, frightening, and potentially very stressful.”
the Australian X-Men star explains.
“With
Transcendental Meditation, the decisions you make are more authentic. You’re
better able to listen to other people—and as an actor, it’s all you’ve got.
It’s helped me immeasurably in every way. I’m a completely different person now
that I am meditating.”
When Hugh
Jackman was stressed, even his wife would notice. He would turn into a
different person, and eventually switch back to the man she knew. Hugh Jackman
says that when we are stressed, our brains are centered on the act of worrying.
The actor
then continues onto saying that Transcendental Meditation has made him connect
with his true self. Another perk of meditation is that it helped him deal with
groups of people, let’s say, a red carpet crowd for one.
As stated
earlier, our brains focus too much on worrying when stressed. With meditation,
Hugh Jackman learned how to connect with the crowd’s calm inner self. He then
adds that you don’t need any specific background to learn it, it’s something
anybody can do.
Hold your horses folks, this claw striking
star also talks about the religious aspect of the act.
“Anyone can
do it. You can be an atheist who meditates, a Christian who meditates, a Muslim
who meditates. It’s like saying. ‘Is walking a religious thing?’ No. It’s
available to anyone, and the quality of your life is changed forever.”
