We may know him as The Beatles’ bassist and vocalist but Paul McCartney is actually fond of meditation. To be specific, transcendental meditation; a method he learned in the 60’s from Maharishi himself. Maharishi has been travelling all over the world to spread his message. He happened to drop by London so George Harrison’s wife, Patti, recommended that they all go to see him.

“It was actually George Harrison’s wife, Patti, who had heard Maharishi was coming to town,” Paul McCartney said. “And she said we should all goI I was just overdoing it though I was just not very centered and I was looking for something. I think we all were during that time.”

Paul added, “So we heard that Maharishi was going to have a meeting and give a lecture in London. That was the first time I’d heard about meditation.” He also admitted “It was very interesting. It was very calming and it seemed like something that was worth trying.” Furthermore, he said that Maharishi put it very well, made it seem simple; and made it seem very attractive.”

Paul comments on how meditation has been really inspiring. Back then, when they weren’t meditating, they’d have their guitars and started writing a few songs. Fellow remaining Beatles’ member, Ringo Starr, says he still meditates daily ever since meeting Maharishi with the band.

Maharishi formulated transcendental meditation and it is one of the most practiced forms of mediation in the world, usually done twice a day with one’s eyes closed. Paul McCartney has been involved and supports the objectives of mediation as a positive effect in one’s life.
